Seniors’ Week 2020 runs June 1 to 7. Strathcona County and the community will celebrate seniors in new and safe ways throughout this special week.

Family and Community Services (FCS) is now offering virtual counselling in its efforts to help residents feel safe, supported and connected. At this time, residents are invited to phone FCS to access supports, including phone or virtual counselling.

Strathcona County is launching a new program called Adopt a Storm Drain. Through the program residents are encouraged to adopt a storm drain in their neighbourhood and help keep it clean and clear of debris.

Strathcona County continues to ensure its COVID-19 response and relaunch plan aligns with the Government of Alberta’s relaunch strategy, while ensuring the health and safety of our community, including County staff, remains a top priority.

Select amenities are re-opening, including playgrounds, in accordance with Alberta Health Services’ updated guidelines.

Strathcona County’s three-stage relaunch strategy focuses on COVID-19 prevention and control measures, and alignment with timelines, phases and conditions directed by the Government of Alberta.

 

Strathcona County residents are invited to show their community pride and “Pitch-In,” with litter removal from May 16 to 24.

 

Strathcona County Council today approved two new policies aimed at building greater diversity and inclusion within the organization and community. The policies were developed over the past year with the input of residents, staff, and subject matter experts from the county and around the region.

A 20–foot sculpture of a bulrush featuring a dragonfly finding a mosquito for lunch was installed on Wednesday, May 6 at the ArrKann Spray Park and Playground in Ardrossan Regional Park. The latest in Strathcona County’s public art collection, “Eyes on the Prize” was created by Canadian artist, William Frymire. 

Strathcona County is reminding drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to watch out for each other and share the road safely.

Strathcona County is nearing the end of five kilometres of improvements on Wye Road. The final phase of construction between Estate Drive and Clover Bar Road will start after the May long weekend.

The Highway 14 Regional Water Commission water main repair is complete, and service has been restored to residents in the area. Effective immediately, the water ban for Collingwood Cove and Antler Lake is lifted.

In light of the impacts of COVID-19 on our community, Strathcona County Council approved proceeding with no municipal tax increase tax on 2020 property taxes, and a penalty deferral on late tax payment.

Council approved three new bylaws, supporting the creation of task forces to guide the community’s short, medium and long-term recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. These task forces, established at the direction of Council to engage the community in helping the county develop an overall strategy, will focus on three areas of recovery: governance, economic resilience, and citizen and community support.

On May 4, 2020, at 6:14 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP responded to a 911 call of a male with a firearm at a residence on Range Road 222. 

Effective immediately, Strathcona County is informing water customers in the area approximately east of Range Road 220 and south of Highway 16, within Ward 7, that there is a water outage until further notice. This outage is due to a water main break on the Highway 14 Regional Water Commission line.

Strathcona County is preparing and reviewing its COVID-19 response and relaunch plan, to align with the new Government of Alberta relaunch strategy. The health and safety of our community, including County staff, remains the top priority.
