Seniors Property Tax Rebate

As of March 16, 2020, all Strathcona County’s Seniors’ Property Tax Program are suspended temporarily due to COVID-19, subject to further reassessment. Please call 780-464-4044 for support and more information.

**Important Update**

If you qualified for the Seniors Property Tax Rebate last year, please proceed to Family and Community Services after July 2nd, 2020 to apply. 

If you did not qualify last year or have not applied previously for the Seniors Property Tax Rebate, please wait until after August 1st, 2020 and call 780-464-4044 before applying in person.

The County provides a $100 rebate to assist low-income seniors who are homeowners. To qualify for the rebate, you must be:

  • 65 years of age or older
  • Meet the Alberta Seniors Benefit program annual income guidelines
  • Single Senior Income must be $28,150 or less
  • Couple's Senior combined Income must be $45,720 or less
  • Live in your own home in Strathcona County

Please apply in person at Family and Community Services at 200, 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park.  You will be required to complete an application form, provide income confirmation (bring your 2019 Notice of Assessment from Canada Revenue Agency) and bring your Strathcona County Property Tax statement.

Property tax deferral

This provincially funded program allows eligible senior homeowners to defer all or part of their property taxes through a low-interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta.
