Updates and notices
On January 7, 2021, the Government of Alberta’s mandatory provincial restrictions were extended. All indoor recreation and culture facilities remain CLOSED until further notice.
OUTDOOR activities and VIRTUAL programs available:
- Virtual programs – register today
- Outdoor cross country ski lessons – register today (Note: private group bookings not available)
- Outdoor pop-up preschool programs – register today
- Cross-country skiing at Strathcona Wilderness Centre and Broadmoor Recreation Complex (Note: all indoor amenities CLOSED with exception of washrooms)
- Snowshoeing, walking trails, parks, playgrounds, toboggan hills and off-leash dog parks

To visit a wellness centre you must pre-book and prepay for your activity time slot. To book your activity time slot, you must have a Recreation Online account, call 780-467-2211 or a recreation facility.

Activity time slot details
- Wellness centre time slots are 90 minutes.
- You will be able to book your activity time slot a maximum of 5 days in advance.
- You can cancel your time slot and receive a credit on your account.
- Visit the Know before you go webpage for more details on booking your time slot and what to expect when you arrive for your activity.
- Millennium Cards remain automatically suspended with no payments being taken. You can reactivate your Millennium Card beginning September 15 by emailing millenniumcard@strathcona.ca or calling 780-467-2211 in advance.
- A new one month (30 day) pass is available for July and August at the same rate as the Millennium Card and can be used for activity time slot bookings. This pass will be available for sale by calling facilities beginning July 15. Learn more.
Guidelines
- Stay home if you are sick, practice proper hand hygiene and follow all Alberta Health Services guidelines for physical distancing and gathering restrictions.
- Arrive a maximum of 10 minutes before your pre-booked activity time slot / any time during your time slot.
- Leave at the end of your time slot to allow staff to disinfect and clean the area before the next time slot.
- Come dressed to participate and leave excess items at home. Wallet lockers and washrooms are available, locker rooms and showers will be closed.
- Bring a pre-filled, labelled water bottle. Bottle fillers are available but drinking fountains are not available.
- Where possible, equipment has been moved to ensure 3 meter distance (cardio) and a 2 meter distance (weights) can be maintained. Signs have been placed closing alternate machines where moving the equipment was no possible.
- Portable / personal fans will be turned off to prevent the spread of droplets and particulates.
- Free weights will be available
- Equipment made of porous materials such as rope or foam will not be available.
- Non-stationary equipment such as balls, mats and resistance bands will not be available. Guests are permitted to bring any small portable equipment such as mats or bands that they require for their workout.
- Small groups are permitted to form cohorts for the purpose of spotting. The size of the cohort is limited to 3. Staff will not spot guests.
- Sanitizing wipes will continue to be available for guest to use in fitness centres. Guests are asked to wipe equipment before and after every use.

Why choose our staff?
Our strength is in our wellness team. We are post secondary graduates with degrees or working towards our degrees in Physical Education or Kinesiology. We also have staff certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists.
Our wellness centre staff are highly qualified to help you develop and meet your fitness goals. We specialize in many areas including sport specific, team training, youth, adult, older adult and chronic or acute health conditions.
Our wellness centres
Our wellness centres - Millennium Place, Ardrossan Recreation Complex and Glen Allan Recreation Complex - have all received the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and Accredited Fitness Appraisal Centres accreditation.

Located on the second floor of Millennium Place, the wellness centre is home to more than 500 pieces of state-of-the-art fitness equipment.
The functional training area has four Olympic lifting platforms, squat racks with bumper plates, and kettlebells. There is also a full line of selectorized weight machines, iso-lateral equipment, multiple free weight areas, cable machines and a dedicated group cycling room. Plus, there is an extensive cardio line-up with built-in 15 inch television screens and variety that will keep your workout fun and challenging!

Enjoy support and free orientations from our knowledgeable and experienced wellness staff. Children 10 – 13 years old who have completed the Fit for the Future orientation program, are welcome in the Wellness Centre under the supervision of an adult.
