Important Notice for Candidates:  Prior to accepting or using funds or donations for the purpose of campaigning, candidates are required to register an Application for Registration of Notice of Intent to Become a Candidate (38.2 KB) with Strathcona County.

Qualifications of a Candidate

A person may be nominated as a candidate in Strathcona County's municipal election, if on Nomination Day (September 20, 2021), the person is:

• 18 years of age or older;
• a Canadian citizen;
• a resident of Strathcona County and the ward in which they intend to run for the six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding Nomination Day (a resident since March 20, 2021); and
• not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.

Sections 22-24 of the Local Authorities Election Act stipulate under what circumstances a candidate is NOT eligible for nomination.  It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that they are not in violation of any condition of eligibility.
