COVID-19: transit service for our public

Updated March 31, 2020

Please only travel when necessary
Transit encourages all customers to only use our services for essential travel needs during this time.

Half-hour service during peak hours is now in effect
(6 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
Transit ridership has significantly reduced and crowding on the bus has not been an issue. We will continue to monitor the situation and add capacity where necessary. For the most up-to-date schedules please always check online.

Fare enforcement and monthly pass sales are currently suspended
Transit has suspended fare enforcement on all our services until further notice. Fare media is not currently available for purchase at any retail outlet.

Customer Service
Transit Customer Service is now closed to in person information and sales.
For transit information please call: 780-464-RIDE (7433) Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
For the most up-to-date schedule information visit our Bus schedule and routes page.

Transit Terminals
Please only use our terminals as transfer points for busing, and spend as little time as possible within our walls. Terminals are not intended as gathering places. When using the terminals please respect other customer’s personal space and maintain a reasonable physical distance.

There is no public WIFI currently available at our terminals.

To ensure the safety of Transit staff and its customers, the hours of operation have been temporarily adjusted at both terminals:

Bethel Transit Terminal
Monday to Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Saturday: 7 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Ordze Transit Centre
Monday to Friday: 5 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Physical distancing
We ask that passengers respect one another’s space, as well as our operator’s. One seat per person is encouraged.
Please board buses via the back door. Passengers requiring assistance will still be able to access the ramp at the front of the bus.

Cleanliness
Strathcona County Transit is taking precautions to ensure your health and safety during this time of uncertainty. Transit is currently using standard buses on the majority of routes to allow operators to more easily observe behaviours such as coughing and sneezing on the buses, allowing them to have their bus changed-out if necessary. Bus will then be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

We encourage you to regularly visit our website for updates on service levels. Transit operations will be assessed daily, at the direction of the experts at Alberta Health. All updates are posted to our website at strathcona.ca/covid19.
