Seniors’ Week - Let’s celebrate!

Seniors’ Week 2020 runs June 1 to 7. Strathcona County and the community will celebrate seniors in new and safe ways throughout this special week.

All ages are invited to join in to recognize the positive impact of this important generation, together celebrating seniors virtually.

Celebrations include a virtual trade fair on the County’s website featuring short videos on a variety of interesting topics for seniors. All residents are encouraged to show seniors how much they are appreciated through sidewalk chalk messages in their neighbourhoods. Stories and virtual thank-yous to acknowledge seniors will also be shared online.

“Seniors are the foundation of our strong community. Their diversity and experience have paved the way in our progress,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “From supporting family members and friends, to assisting charities and volunteering, seniors are deeply involved in our community and their contributions make a huge difference.”

“It is an isolating time for many seniors, given COVID-19,” adds Mayor Frank. “This Seniors’ Week, it’s all the more important to reach out, safely. Let’s recognize and celebrate the older adults who have touched our lives and helped to shape a safe, supported and connected community.”
