County invests over $1 million towards a shared vision of community well-being in partnership with 16 local non-profits

As part of its community-based partnered approach to implement Strathcona County’s Social Framework, Council voted to invest a total of $1,094,660 in 16 local social non-profit sector organizations.

Awarded under the Social Framework Community Grants Policy, the grants provide financial support to non-profit, social service groups and organizations that are meeting the social service needs of residents.

Council approved funding under two streams; Core Social Funding that focuses on prevention and early intervention supports for social needs (over 1-3 years) and Collaboration Funding that focuses on cross-sector partnerships to address community-wide social issues (over 2-3 years).

The following non-profit organizations received grant funding under the Core Social Funding stream:

  • altView Foundation for Gender Variant and Sexual Minorities
    ($124,000 in 2020, $124,000 in 2021, $124,000 in 2022)
  • Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area
    ($80,000 in 2020)
  • Boys & Girls Club of Strathcona County
    ($131,345 in 2020, $90,000 in 2021, $90,000 in 2022)
  • BriarPatch Family Life Education Centre
    ($10,000 in 2020, $10,000 in 2021, $10,000 in 2022)
  • Drive Happiness Seniors Association
    ($12,500 in 2020)
  • Fort Saskatchewan Families First Society (Angel Whispers Program)
    ($8,315 in 2020, $8,315 in 2021)
  • Hope in Strathcona: A Post Recovery Home Association
    ($50,000 in 2020)
  • Linking Generations Society of Alberta
    ($35,000 in 2020, $35,000 in 2021)
  • Parents Empowering Parents Society (PEP)
    ($70,000 in 2020, $50,000 in 2021, $50,000 in 2022)
  • Saffron Centre Ltd.

  • Strathcona County Community Mediation Society
    ($7,500 in 2020)
  • Strathcona Shelter Society (A Safe Place)
    ($32,000 in 2020)
  • Strathcona Youth Justice Committee
    ($25,000 in 2020, $25,000 in 2021, $25,000 in 2022)
  • Volunteer Strathcona Centre
    ($345,000 in 2020, $320,000 in 2021, $295,000 in 2022)

The following non-profit organizations received grant funding under the Collaboration Funding stream:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Strathcona County and Irelate Inc.
    ($5,000 in 2020)
  • Linking Generations Society of Alberta and Volunteer Strathcona
    ($9,000 in 2020, $9,000 in 2021)
