Enforcement Services officers working to keep roads safe

Strathcona County Enforcement Services officers are reminding motorists to drive safely. Traffic enforcement efforts over two weekends in July intercepted several high-speed violations and stunting.

“Our primary focus is the safety and well-being of our community,” says Sgt. Evan Brown, supervisor, Enforcement Services. “Our message is clear: excessive speeding and stunting is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated.”

Traffic enforcement over the July 7-9 and July 14-16 weekends included penalties for the following activities:

• A motorist travelling 153 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. 
• A motorist travelling 147 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone.
• A motorcycle travelling 120 km/hr and performing a wheelie for approximately 100m in a posted 70 km/hr zone on Baseline Road and Crimson Drive.
• Additional high speeds of 184 km/hr, 140 km/hr, and 133 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.
• Several suspended drivers were encountered as well as several outstanding warrants were executed.

Penalties included monetary fines, licence demerits, court attendance, vehicle tows and vehicle seizures.

Speed enforcement is a key part of the County’s Project TENSOR EAST (Traffic Enforcement Noise/Speed Offence Reduction). Launched in May and running until early fall, Project TENSOR EAST focuses enforcement on ‘hot spots’ around the County, including areas noted by citizen complaints.
