Whether you are a seasoned artist or just starting out, Strathcona Contemporary invites you to join in a dynamic, two-month celebration showcasing the incredible talent of Strathcona County’s art community through a series of five social events.

“In response to ongoing conversations with artists and colleagues, a decision was made to rebrand the Strathcona Salon exhibition to Strathcona Contemporary,” says Kelly Andres, Public Art Curator with Strathcona County. “As a result, we are moving from one event to a series of five events focused on networking, community, artists and professional development. These events are free and open to all.”

The social events begin in April and include an opening reception at Gallery@501, a youth gallery celebration, an artist-led workshop, a professional development session and a closing celebration featuring the Art Acquisition selections for 2024.

Each distinct event offers unparalleled opportunities including:

  • Connecting with your peers. Explore, connect and thrive within a community of creators as you meet fellow artists, art enthusiasts and potential collaborators.
  • Inspiring others and being inspired. Immerse yourself in a diverse array of artistic expressions, sparking inspiration and fostering a collective spirit of creativity within the County. Gain insight into available opportunities as you learn about grants, events and more.
  • Engaging with the community. Share your art with the public! Amplify your exposure and build bridges between your art and the broader community, opening doors for economic gains and future artistic endeavors.
  • Cultivating growth. Elevate your art practice through shared experiences and knowledge exchange. Join workshops, discussions and interactive sessions tailored to enhance your creative journey.

Strathcona Contemporary welcomes all creators to join this enriching celebration of art, fostering a supportive environment for growth and expression.

Art submissions for the Gallery@501 exhibition and annual Art Acquisition will be accepted February 5 through April 15, 2024.

The annual Art Acquisition program is hosted by the Art Collection Advisory Committee, a group of citizen artists, curators and professionals who guide Strathcona County’s permanent art collection and provide feedback on public art projects.
