Strathcona County honours seniors

June 5 to 11 is Seniors’ Week in Strathcona County. The County will celebrate the community’s seniors and older adults as part of the province’s annual Seniors’ Week. Every year, the County joins municipalities and organizations from across the province to honour seniors.

This year the County will focus on celebrating the immense contributions that they have provided to our community.

“Seniors are the backbone of our community, holding a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that only time can cultivate,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “Their contributions permeate every aspect of our community and have helped lay the foundation for future generations to prosper in.”

On Monday, June 5, the County will partner with WESeniors to host an Alberta Seniors’ Week Celebration in the Agora at the Community Centre, located at 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park. From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees will enjoy guest speakers, outdoor games, a free BBQ, loot bags and door prizes, 50/50 and more. Residents are asked to register by June 2.

Seniors can book their free tickets to the event and learn more about where to find other events during Seniors’ Week by visiting

Seniors’ Week is just one of the County’s commitments to older adults. In addition to funding the local work of WESeniors Strathcona to expand supports for older adults in the community, Strathcona County’s Family and Community Services and Recreation Parks and Culture also provide many resources and programming for older adults. Family and Community Services supports individuals at all ages and stages of life – including help with finances, relationships, mental health and more. Recreation Parks and Culture provides a variety of fitness and social programming tailored toward older adults – including a 55+ Zone, an Adult Wellness Team and more.
