New On-Demand Transit App available July 10, 2023
June 26, 2023

On July 10, 2023, Strathcona County Transit will be moving to a new On-Demand booking system and app. The change is a result of valuable transit user experience feedback that further improves the On-Demand local service as the pilot continues through to December of 2024.
Changes to On-Demand booking app include:
- Trips will be bookable up to five days in advance
- Travel on the day of will move to truly on-demand, you will only be able to book within 30 minutes of when you are ready to take your trip on the day of travel.
- Phone lines will only be available until 7 p.m. daily
“Transit recognizes the importance of providing reliable transit service - which is why we listen carefully to rider feedback about the On-Demand service pilot. We will continue to consult with our customers to evaluate how the new app, and the On-Demand service, is meeting the local transportation needs of the community.” said Wade Coombs, director of Transit.
As part of the change, On-Demand transit users will need to download the new SC OnDemand app prior to July 10. There will be no crossover between the current and new service provider apps. The new app will be available in the Apple Store and Google Play approximately one week prior to July 10. Once riders have the new app, they can start to pre-book trips five days before their desired travel day until 7 p.m. the day before travel.
Please note: bookings made on the day of travel will be changing to be only On-Demand. For day-of travel needs, riders are encouraged to book their trip no more than 30 minutes before their desired departure time. Riders will not be able to pre-book rides for later in the same day (outside of the 30-minute departure time).
Local evening and weekend On-Demand service hours remain as:
Monday to Friday: 7 p.m. - 12:15 a.m.
Saturday: 6:15 a.m. – 12:15 a.m.
Sunday: 7:15 a.m. – 8:15 p.m.
Please note, as of July 10, the new On-Demand phone line booking hours are Monday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The change in phone operation hours is based on the current call volumes. For riders who prefer to book by phone at 780-464-RIDE (7433), evening rides will need to be pre-booked the day before by 7 p.m. Riders can also choose to book the day of travel online at strathcona.ca/OnDemandTransit or use the app for an On-Demand trip.
