Budget meetings begin next week

On November 13, Strathcona County Council will begin deliberations for the 2025-28 multi-year budget.

The County budget determines where dollars will be spent to maintain and improve municipal programs, services and infrastructure such as roads and public buildings. The budget also impacts residential and commercial property taxes.

“In preparing this budget, we’ve prioritized alignment with our strategic goals to strengthen service delivery and maintain essential assets, such as roads and infrastructure. This budget also introduces a new focus on managing growth, reflecting the evolving needs of our community,” explains Jennifer Cannon, Chief Financial Officer for Strathcona County. “Our commitment is to support sustainable growth and innovation, ensuring we address immediate priorities while establishing a strong foundation for our financial future.”

Council will meet and deliberate regarding Budget 2025 on November 13, 14, 20, 21, 25 and 28, if required. Following Council’s budget meeting deliberations the 2025 budget will be approved, with the budgets for 2026 to 2028 approved in principle.

Budget meetings are webcast to keep residents informed about budget considerations, the reasoning behind decisions, and final outcomes. The public can watch the sessions live or recorded at strathcona.ca/webcasts.

Budget documents will be posted to the County’s website at strathcona.ca/budget before the public presentation on November 13 and residents and businesses are invited to share their views at a public hearing on November 21 at 5 p.m.

Participation in the public hearing is available in person or remotely. If speaking remotely, you must register by 4 p.m. on November 20 by emailing legislativeofficer@strathcona.ca or calling 780-464-8014. In-person speakers are encouraged to register in advance but can also register at the hearing.
