Strathcona County Chief Commissioner retiring

Strathcona County’s Chief Commissioner Darrell Reid announced his retirement, effective January 31, 2025.

“We are grateful for Mr. Reid’s administrative leadership and role in advising Council over the last four years,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “His experience in all levels of government has been invaluable to Council as we navigated unprecedented challenges and continued to strive towards our goals of innovation, efficiencies, fiscal responsibility and building a community that is healthy, safe and welcoming to all.”

Reid was appointed Chief Commissioner by Strathcona County Council on July 13, 2020. The Chief Commissioner’s role includes leading the development, implementation and administration of all policies and programs established and approved by Council, guiding and advising Council on legislation and municipal operations, and providing information to support Council in making informed decisions.

“It has been an honour to serve Strathcona County and the community I call home as Chief Commissioner,” says Reid. “We have experienced significant challenges during my time with the County, and I am proud of our staff and community’s accomplishments, innovation and resilience. Our community and Council are served by the strongest Administration I have ever been a part of, and retiring in January will allow me to lead our team through the upcoming budget process and support a smooth transition to an Acting Chief Commissioner.”

An Acting Chief Commissioner will be appointed to serve in the interim while the County seeks a new Chief Commissioner.
