Grant applications now open to support community connections
March 23, 2021
The need for social connection is greater than ever. Strathcona County residents are invited to apply for two types of Social Framework Community Grants to support local connections or projects that foster positive community outcomes.
Guided by the Strathcona County Social Framework, these Community Grants empower residents to support the outcomes of affordability, access to programs and services, safety, and connectedness and inclusion.
County residents who are interested in community safety and well-being, and who have a passion for leading community-building gatherings and activities are invited to apply for a Community Connection or a Community Change grant.
Community Connection micro-grants of up to $350 are available for residents to support neighbourhood events or activities that promote social connection, inclusion and well-being in Strathcona County. Some examples from 2020 include a music concert in a cul-de-sac, gardening inspiration in the community, and a safe and fun virtual game night.
Applications are now open until April 30, 2021. Events or activities must be held between June 1 and December 31, 2021, and follow Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines in place at the time of the activity.
Community Change Grants of up to $2,000 are available to community groups, non-profit organizations and residents for projects that create positive social change in Strathcona County. Some examples from 2020 include a virtual educational speaker series, an outdoor stone circle to host and connect with Indigenous teachings, and a sharing shack with games, puzzles and books.
Applications will be open April 19 through May 28, 2021. Projects must be completed between June 25 and December 31, 2021, and follow Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines as applicable.
These grants will be assessed according to grant guidelines, while balancing rural/urban and neighbourhood distribution, and contributing to a safe, supported and connected community.
