Making dollars and sense of the 2025 County budget

A follow-up budget survey is now open for residents and businesses to have their say about Strathcona County’s budget, spending and priorities. This second round of engagement follows the spring survey that asked our community for their thoughts about spending priorities, tax increases and County services.

“Our community’s input is an important component to shaping the County’s budget,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “With continuing pressures from high interest rates and inflation, it is essential for Council to hear from our community to inform tough decisions we must make about service levels, tax rates and spending priorities while maintaining fiscal responsibility.”

In the spring survey, more than half of responses showed a preference to increase property taxes if it meant County service levels would be maintained. The current survey now open explores this idea with questions about priority service levels, service areas, tax rates and County spending.

The survey is available on County Voice, and additional forum topics provide residents various opportunities to share their thoughts and ideas that will guide Council’s budget deliberations and proposal.

Survey results will be presented to Council in October, and residents will have an opportunity to speak to Council at a budget meeting in November.

The fall survey and online discussion will be open from August 26 to September 8, 2024. Residents can join County Voice and follow the project to receive updates. To join County Voice, fill out the survey or answer online questions, visit strathcona.ca/BudgetSurvey.
