Help shape Strathcona County’s outdoor spaces

Strathcona County’s open spaces are essential to a healthy and livable community. The County has nearly 2,000 hectares of parks and open spaces, which provide a wide range of experiences, services and resources that many residents rely on for their way of life. To help guide the acquisition, preservation and management of these important spaces, the County is embarking on an exciting journey to create a visionary Open Space Master Plan (OSMP).

In the current project phase, residents are invited to shape the direction of the OSMP through a short online survey, open now until August 18. Survey results will be shared in fall 2024, followed by additional opportunities to get involved in the project.

“We are thrilled to begin the Open Space Master Plan, which will be created to enrich our community and enhance our shared open spaces,” says Leslee Laing, Senior Advisor, Open Space Planning. “We invite everyone to get involved and contribute their ideas and feedback. Your participation is crucial in shaping open spaces that reflect our collective vision and values. Together, we can continue building a vibrant and welcoming community for all.”

With its unique blend of urban and rural communities, Strathcona County values ecological integrity, outdoor recreation and the region’s agricultural heritage. The OSMP ensures that future development continues to provide a welcoming place to live, including the right mix of open spaces, features and amenities to support our communities into the future.
