Cram a Cruiser for the Strathcona Food Bank

On Friday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Strathcona County Enforcement Services and RCMP will be collecting donations for the Strathcona Food Bank at the Save-on-Foods, Sobeys and Superstore Baseline Road locations. Staff will be onsite with a police cruiser and are encouraging shoppers to cram the cruiser with food donations.

“Cram the Cruiser is about more than filling a vehicle with donations — it’s about working together to bring hope and support to our neighbours in need,” says Tom Sutton, Director, RCMP and Enforcement Services. “We’re heading into the busiest time of year for the food bank, and our community’s generosity during this annual event helps  bring in much-needed donations.”

In 2023, the Strathcona Food Bank distributed 5,566 hampers and served 17,177 people. The fall and winter months traditionally see an increase in need at the food bank. The food bank’s most needed donation items include:

  • Cold cereal, low-sugar and plain cheerios

  • Pasta sauce

  • Canned tomatoes

  • Canned tuna

  • Whole grain crackers

  • Condensed mushroom soup

  • No-sugar-added canned fruit

  • No-sugar-added fruit juice, large tetras

Nice to have items include baby wipes, size 4T to 6T diapers, and dry pet food.

All donations collected from the Cram a Cruiser event stay in Strathcona County and support the Strathcona Food Bank In 2023, Cram a Cruiser collected 5,352 lbs of food and $1,955 in donations.
