August 13 event traffic disruptions in Strathcona County

L’Etape by Tour de France brings riders of all ages
On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Strathcona County is hosting L’Etape Canada by Tour de France - a unique cycling event with the history, atmosphere and passion of the legendary Tour de France.
Temporary traffic disruptions are required in support of the event and for the safety of our residents and participants. Traffic impacts including detours and parking restrictions will begin early Sunday morning before 7 a.m. into the afternoon until around 2 p.m.
Three race routes will take riders of all skills and abilities, including children and families, along roads in Sherwood Park, Ardrossan and rural areas heading towards Josephburg and Fort Saskatchewan.
Traffic impacts include:
- Expect travel delays, avoid heavy equipment/farm equipment use, and use alternate routes where possible on the following rural grid roads:
- Highway 16 Service Road from Range Road 222 to Range Road 224,
- Range Road 224 from Highway 16 Service Road to Township Road 540,
- Township 540 from Range Road 224 to Range Road 223,
- Range Road 223 from Township Road 540 to Township 542,
- Township Road 542 from Range Road 223 to Range Road 220,
- Range Road 220 from Township Road 542 to Township Road 544,
- Township Road 544 from Range Road 220 to Range Road 213,
- Range Road 213 from Township Road 544 to Township Road 534,
- Township Road 534 from Range Road 213 to Range Road 222,
- Range Road 222 from Township Road 534 to Highway 16.
- Near Ardrossan, traffic delays and turning restrictions at intersections on Range Road 222 between Township Road 530 and Highway 16.
- In Ardrossan, southbound traffic only on Queen Street between Third Avenue and King Street.
- Reduced speed and single lane closures in both directions on Clover Bar Road.
- Reduced speed and single lane closures in both directions on Baseline Road from Clover Bar Road to Highway 21; and westbound traffic only on Range Road 221A, with access maintained for Trinity Baptist Church traffic.
- An Athlete’s Village and the race start are at Broadmoor Lake Park. No parking will be available in Festival Place or on Festival Way. Spectators are encouraged to park at other area parking including Sherwood Park Arena, Kinsmen Leisure Centre, Community Centre and Centre in the Park.
Drivers are encouraged to take other routes if possible and are reminded to obey road closure signs to ensure the safety of all those involved in this event. Watch for road signs along the race routes.
