Reducing noise and speed on County roads

Project TENSOR (Traffic Enforcement, Noise/Speed Offence Reduction) has returned for its second summer in Strathcona County.

Launched in 2021, Project TENSOR East aims to reduce vehicle noise and speed on County roads by targeting hot spots in the County, including areas Enforcement Services receives complaints about.

“Our community has made it clear vehicle noise is a problem and priority in our area,” says Inspector Vito Disciglio, Enforcement Services. “Project TENSOR allows us to work towards reducing the number of traffic-related noise complaints and ensure driver compliance with the Traffic Safety Act and noise regulations.”

Enforcement officers will focus on vehicles that create excessive noise, stunt, speed or violate equipment restrictions outlined in the Traffic Safety Act.

Vehicle noise continues to be a concern for County residents particularly in the summer, and Enforcement Services will take an education-first approach with motorists to reduce violations and complaints and create a safe community for all residents to enjoy.

The program runs between late spring and early fall, and over 600 tickets were issued in 2021 for noise, speeding, distracted driving and equipment regulations.
