Nominations open for County Sports Wall of Recognition

April 12, 2022

Nominations open for County Sports Wall of Recognition Kevan Cameron, Soccer Player. Inducted in 2001.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Millennium Place Sports Wall of Recognition. The Sports Wall of Recognition program pays tribute to Strathcona County residents for outstanding contributions and achievements in sport, as well as builders who have acted in leadership capacities through their roles as coaches, trainers, officials, managers or volunteers.

Since its inception in 2001, new inductees have been added through three nomination periods in 2007, 2011 and 2017. Photographs of the first inductees were unveiled at Millennium Place in 2001, and included soccer player Kevan Cameron, hockey players Judy Diduck, Gerald Diduck and Ray Whitney, and Paralympic track athlete Kristine Lucas-Hogan. Recognized sports builders also include soccer official Derek Douglas, ringette volunteer Jack Lukey, hockey volunteers Jim Frank and Bill Warwick, and two of the founders of the Tournament of Nations, Terry Walsh and Trudy Holt.

Recent builder inductees include football and basketball coach James Lazaruk, ringette developer and coach Phyllis Sadoway, as well as athletes Jack Bond (wrestling), Blaine Manning (lacrosse) and Kristina Schultz (triathlon).

Strathcona County welcomes nominations for all athletes and coaches affiliated with provincial or national sports organizations. Strathcona County relies on community nominations to recognize new inductees and is actively working to ensure recognition opportunities are widely promoted to reflect the diversity of athletes and builders in Strathcona County.

This year’s nomination period closes May 23, 2022. Visit strathcona.ca/WallOfRecognition to learn more about the program and view nomination forms, guidelines and a full list of past inductees.
