Strathcona County adds recreation and culture opportunities
March 11, 2021

Strathcona County is introducing more recreation and culture opportunities, as part of its adaptation to the province’s easement of COVID-19 restrictions. Additional offerings now include low-intensity aquatic programs, and soon, in-person visual and performing arts programs. This programming is in addition to the return of indoor low-intensity activities, including individual training in wellness centres and low-intensity indoor group fitness programs, that began on March 8, 2021.
NEW! Additional programs and activities include:
- Child and youth skating lessons – registration now open.
- Health-based, low-intensity aquatic mobility programs at Emerald Hills Leisure Centre – registration now open.
- The indoor track at Millennium Place is open for low-intensity activity and included in the wellness centre activity time slot bookings. The track at Ardrossan Recreation Complex remains closed but is being evaluated to meet safety requirements in place.
- Gymnasium and indoor field booking availability for homeschoolers – bookings now open.
- Virtual and outdoor Spring Break programs – registration now open.
Coming soon
- Virtual, outdoor and in-person indoor spring programs (sports, group fitness, preschool, visual arts, performing arts and interpretive) - registration opens Monday, March 22 at 7 a.m.
- Aquatic spring programs (private and household group lessons) - registration opens Tuesday, March 23 at 7 a.m.
All programs and activities have been created to meet the provincial guidelines in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in Strathcona County. Masks are required while in all Strathcona County indoor facilities, including during exercise and registered programs. Currently, the provincial health order states that mask exemptions do not apply for wellness centres with the exception of individuals who are participating in high-intensity, 1:1 training with a certified professional. Under Step 2 of the provincial plan, individual lap swimming is currently not permitted.
