City of Edmonton and Strathcona County joint planning study to guide collaboration
The City of Edmonton and Strathcona County have a new tool to guide and improve collaboration and communication on infrastructure and planning along their shared 40km boundary. The two municipalities recently completed and signed a Joint Planning Study: Boundary Interface Protocols and Strategies.

The Strathcona Salon Series exhibit at the Gallery@501 showcasing Strathcona County’s talented local artists runs from May 14 to June 26. This annual exhibit includes art that has been submitted for consideration for the County’s Art Collection.

Strathcona County opens welcome centre for evacuees
Strathcona County, in partnership with local community groups and agencies, has opened a welcome centre to provide resources and up-to-date information to those affected by the Fort McMurray and area fires. The Welcome Centre, located in the Community Centre’s Agora at 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park, is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

From community gardens to beekeeping, urban agriculture is a “growing” trend across North America’s urban areas. In Strathcona County, residents, businesses and community groups are being asked to share their vision on urban agriculture.

Strathcona County ready to assist evacuees
The Fort McMurray fire has triggered the largest fire-related evacuation of residents in Alberta’s history. Over 80,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. In addition to on the ground support with fire fighting and policing, Strathcona County is working to welcome evacuees arriving in the County.

Municipal property tax increase less than one per cent
Strathcona County has kept residential property taxes for the municipal portion to a 0.69 per cent increase over last year to maintain County programs and services, and fund capital projects.

In celebration of Arbor Day, Strathcona County’s Grade One students’ tree-inspired artwork will be featured in the Gallery@501 window display. Grade One students will also receive a seedling and enjoy educational activities on Arbor Day, Friday May 6, 2016 at Broadmoor Lake Park.
