Treat yourself to an "eerie-sistible” Halloween
October 22, 2024

Strathcona County is supporting a safe, accessible and healthy Halloween for all trick-or-treaters this year through free recreation passes for local youth and events for everyone.
Preparing for a spook-tacular Halloween
Strathcona County students from kindergarten to grade 12 will receive a free Healthy Halloween pass for a one-time admission to County recreation facilities, valid until October 31, 2025. Grade two students will also receive a colouring book, featuring fun activities and tips for a safe Halloween experience. Homeschooled students can pick up their pass at the Recreation Administration Building (2025 Oak Street, Sherwood Park) from October 28 - 31 during office hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Strathcona County has several fun, free family activities leading up to Halloween including a Haunted Halloween skate, an afternoon of treats and safety with RCMP, Enforcement Services and Emergency Services, and more!
Residents can help make trick-or-treaters in the community feel welcome by displaying an inclusive Halloween poster that indicates consideration of nut-free treats, secured pets and low-sensory decorations without strobe lights or loud noises.
Have a gourd time!
On October 30 and 31, tiny trick-or-treaters (under five years of age) are welcome to visit County recreation facilities for their very own Healthy Halloween pass. Emergency Services crews will join the spooktacular fun on Halloween by visiting communities to hand out treats as resources allow.
RCMP and Enforcement Services officers are also getting into the spirit on October 31 by treating youth with positive “tickets” that grant a free one-time admission to County recreation facilities.
A reminder to all motorists to slow down, especially in residential areas, and to stay alert for the large number of young people who will be out that evening.
County buses are a safe place for anyone to get help on Halloween or any day of the year. Our Transit Operators are an extra set of eyes on the road helping keep the streets safe. If trick-or-treaters run into trouble while out having fun, they can flag down a bus for help. For more information on transit services on Halloween, visit strathcona.ca/Transit. Check out Riding with Us and see everything the Safe Bus program has to offer.
Wrap up with a smash!
Once Halloween is over, put your pumpkins to a good second use! On November 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., bring pumpkins to Fire Station #6; for a donation, you can drop them from the tower to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.
From everyone at Strathcona County, we wish you a safe and fun Halloween!
