Project TENSOR East revs up this month

Project TENSOR (Traffic Enforcement Noise/Speed Offence Reduction) East returns this month in Strathcona County. Introduced in 2021, this data-driven traffic safety initiative targets local hot spots for speeding, stunting, and traffic-related noise complaints over the summer months.

“Project TENSOR East is an essential tool in advancing road safety and tackling the vehicle noise and speeding concerns raised by residents in Strathcona County,” states Inspector Vito DiSciglio, Strathcona County Enforcement Services. “The launch of Project TENSOR East for 2026 reflects our steadfast commitment to traffic enforcement and safer roads for everyone.”

Community peace officers, with support from the Edmonton Police Service and Strathcona County RCMP, will use a coordinated approach that balances education and enforcement to help reduce noise and improve traffic safety.

During Project TENSOR East, officers will be paying particular attention to vehicles that:

• create excessive noise, including loud or modified mufflers
• speed or stunt on public roadways
• violate equipment requirements under the Traffic Safety Act, including those with tint applied to the front windshield
• distracted driving.

In 2025, Strathcona County Enforcement Services issued approximately 1,235 violations during Project TENSOR East operations.

To report excessive vehicle noise and other traffic concerns, residents can call the 24/7 non-emergency complaint line at 780-467-7741. If there is immediate danger or you suspect the driver is impaired, call 9-1-1.
