Learn, create, experiment, and inspire! 

Strathcona County offers visual art programs and activities out of two main locations, Gallery@501 and Smeltzer House Visual Arts Centre. Explore pottery and glass fusing, photography, fibre art, painting and drawing, soapstone carving, and more. Visual art programs are open to everyone and include a wide variety of creative experiences taught by community educators and experienced artists and makers.

Visual arts programs are also available for private groups and schools.

Glass Fusing


Join us at Studio One to explore your creativity in glass fusing. Sketch ideas, plan designs and learn how to work with glass to create stunning artworks. Try our glass fusing sessions for families, youth (9Y+), adults, seniors and homeschool workshops.

Brush up on your painting skills with local artist Jeff Chorney. Over the course of three classes you'll learn more about painting en plain air, techniques and tools, then get out and paint on location! All supplies included.

Gallery@501 programs

At Gallery@501, we run our programs in a fully equipped art studio right next to our main gallery exhibit space. Kids, adults and seniors can get creative with classes for watercolour and acrylic painting, needle felting and printmaking and more! All programs are led by artists and professional arts educators.

Smeltzer House programs

The Smeltzer House Visual Arts Centre offers a variety of art and craft classes for all ages, ability levels and aspirations. Programs are designed to introduce students to new art styles or build existing skills in painting, drawing, mixed media, weaving, knitting, sewing and more. At the Clay Hut, you'll learn pottery and ceramics through hand-building and wheel-throwing while being led by an experienced instructor. At Studio One, discover the world of glass fusing to make your own beautiful creations.
