Strathcona County proud to host 2023 Tour de France event for amateur cyclists

Strathcona County is honoured to be selected as host of a Tour de France event for amateur cyclists, August 12 and 13, 2023! Registration is now open for L’Étape Canada by Tour de France. We welcome participants and spectators alike to find their adventure here.

Millennium Place all aglow in more energy efficient lighting

Recreational facilities play an important part in the fabric and connection of a community.

Thanks in part to a Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) grant of approximately $645,000, lights in the ice and soccer arenas and in other areas in Millennium Place have been replaced with energy efficient lighting to reduce the building’s electricity consumption. With the County’s contribution, the project totalled over $915,000.

Ring in 2023 at Broadmoor Lake Park

Ring in 2023 with free, family-friendly festivities on Saturday, December 31 starting at 4 p.m. The evening will wrap up with spectacular fireworks at 8 p.m., early enough for even the youngest of festival goers to enjoy. The fun will take place at Broadmoor Lake Park (2025 Oak Street, Sherwood Park) and includes activities at Festival Place and the Sherwood Park Arena and Sports Centre.

Strathcona County is pleased to present two new exhibitions, featuring the diversity and skilled artwork of Gallery members. The exhibits open at Gallery@501 on December 9 and show until January 21, 2023.

Council approves six-hole disc golf course at Greengrove Park

Council approved the implementation of a six-hole disc golf course at Greengrove Park, following the review of a pilot five-hole disc golf course at this Sherwood Park location.

Integrated Transportation Master Plan update highlights community priorities

Council has approved an updated master plan to guide how the County manages and invests in its transportation network. The Integrated Transportation Master Plan (ITMP) update addresses significant changes in regional and County growth and planning since the plan was first developed in 2012.

Residents urged to choose a safe place for outdoor skating

With the recent drop in temperature, ice has formed on stormwater management facilities throughout Strathcona County. Residents are reminded that this ice is dangerous and unsafe for public use. Instead, head out to one of Strathcona County’s many outdoor skating options; boarded rinks, snow-banked rinks and skating pathways.

Council digs deep to reduce tax burden for residents and businesses

In an economic climate of high inflation, increased energy costs, supply shortages, shrinking grant dollars and post pandemic recovery realities, Strathcona County Council dug deep to look at ways to lessen the impact of these challenges to keep property taxes as low as possible.
