Strathcona County earns Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

May 19, 2026

Strathcona County’s annual financial report for the year ended Dec. 31, 2024 was awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. In order to be awarded a Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized annual financial report, whose contents conform to program standards.

Strathcona County’s 2024 annual report goes beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and demonstrates a commitment to clearly communicating the County’s financial picture.

Council’s strategic plan and vision provide guidance, direction and focus to the County’s financial activities. Managing financial resources is a key contributor to future financial sustainability and the achievement of Council’s vision. This award marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time since 2019 that the County has submitted to the program.

“Earning the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting reflects the dedication and collaboration of County teams who worked to make our 2024 financial report clear, accessible and meaningful for residents,” says Jennifer Cannon, Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Corporate Services. “This award reflects our commitment to transparent financial reporting.”
