Annual tax notices will be mailed mid-May

The 2026 budget includes a 4.88 per cent municipal tax revenue increase to support ongoing services, growth, and long term planning. Even with this change, Strathcona County continues to maintain one of the lowest municipal tax rates in the Edmonton metropolitan region.

This year’s increase supports the County’s commitment to high‑quality municipal services, long‑term financial sustainability, and strategic capital investment. Of the 4.88 per cent increase, 1.13 per cent is required to meet operational needs and growth, with the remaining portion directed toward capital priorities, including the third and final year of the recreation infrastructure levy.

"We have worked hard to find the right balance between supporting growth and maintaining the services and infrastructure we currently have,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “Residents recognize that every dollar is designed to deliver services, maintain infrastructure and invest in the future of our community. This budget reflects responsible spending and supports affordability, while ensuring we can meet today’s needs and tomorrow’s priorities.”

Last year, residents shared their 2026 budget priorities through a public survey. Respondents identified long‑term fiscal sustainability and minimizing property taxes without reducing service levels as their top concerns. Budget 2026 responds to this feedback by emphasizing prudent financial management while supporting sustainable growth across residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and local business sectors.

“This budget delivers stability, supports essential services, and reflects careful planning for current and future needs,” says Jennifer Cannon, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “It balances responsible financial management with thoughtful investment, ensuring the County remains well positioned to support the community over the long term.”

The total amount on a tax notice is made up of three parts. About 63 per cent goes toward municipal taxes, about 36 per cent is collected on behalf of the Government of Alberta for education and the remaining one per cent supports seniors’ housing through Heartland Housing.

The estimated impact of a 4.88 per cent municipal tax increase on a sample urban residence assessed at $513,000 will be $109 per year, or $9 per month. A sample commercial property in Strathcona County (valued at $2.01 million) will see an increase of $1,030 per year or $85 per month.

Property taxes are due on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. More information can be found by visiting strathcona.ca/PropertyTax.
