Strathcona County shortlisted for 2024 Canada’s Safest Employers Award

Strathcona County is proud to announce it has been shortlisted as an Excellence Awardee in the 2024 Canada’s Safest Employers Awards by Canadian Occupational Safety magazine.

The awards recognize outstanding health and safety professionals and organizations for leadership, innovation and achievements. Canada’s Safest Employers Awards are seen as the leading independent awards program in occupational health and safety and recognize organizations annually across Canada for their efforts in promoting and maintaining outstanding health and safety in the workplace.

Shortlisted in the “Canada’s Safest Public Sector/Non-Profit Employer” award category, the County is recognized as an employer within the public sector/non-profit sector that has an exemplary health and safety record. Nominees demonstrate how they ensure the health and safety of anyone who has access to or works on or off their premises or facilities which includes health care, educational institutions, police, fire and EMS, municipalities, government departments and all non-profit organizations.

“This recognition demonstrates progress toward our strategic goals of municipal excellence and a healthy and safe community,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “I am very proud of our commitment to protecting and maintaining the health and safety of all County employees, contractors and visitors to our worksites.”

The process to be considered for this award has many steps and to be named an Excellence Awardee is an incredible honour. Nominations are gathered at the start of the year, then the awards team researches each nominee before they are shortlisted. If shortlisted, the nominees are asked to provide a more detailed submission form and conduct an employee perception survey.

Once the additional information is received, the nominations are considered by the awards team and announced in August. After judging by the independent panel of esteemed experts, who are thought leaders and veterans in the occupational health and safety profession, the winners will be announced during the awards show in Toronto on October 10, 2024.
