Strathcona County’s FireFit team to host Regional Championship

On June 3, the fittest firefighters around the province and territories will be competing in the FireFit Alberta/Yukon Regional Championship at Kinsmen Leisure Centre. Competitors will be put through a timed obstacle course made up of various skills and abilities required in firefighting.

Physical activity is critical for the health and well-being of firefighters. FireFit Championship offers the opportunity for the fittest firefighters to put their skills, speed and abilities to the test.

Strathcona County quickly stepped in to host the event after the original host location had to unexpectedly cancel with very short notice.

“We are very excited that we were able to keep the Regional Championship for Alberta going,” said FireFit Champion and Fire Fighter/Paramedic Brad Dicks. “This event is important for competitors to be able to qualify for National and World Championships.”

The County’s FireFit team are the reigning 2022 FireFit World and National Champions. This small but mighty team won four gold medals, one silver medal and many personal bests in 2022.

The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 in the parking lot at Kinsmen Leisure Centre (2001 Oak Street, Sherwood Park). Residents are encouraged to come cheer on the competitors and bring a food bank donation.
