It’s open! New residential water fill station in South Cooking Lake

The new residential water fill station in South Cooking Lake is now open, thanks to input from area residents and support from provincial grant funding.

“Thank you to the residents who provided input on a water fill station that will best meet area needs; and to the staff involved in planning, building, and now operating this station,” says Mayor Rod Frank. “The new station supports Strathcona County’s commitment to providing rural servicing. It also supports building strong communities to support the diverse needs of our residents.”

The station provides a convenient, enhanced residential water fill service to South Strathcona County. Previously residents would have to travel to Sherwood Park, Half Moon Lake or Ardrossan to access water fill services.

The station is located at 22142 South Cooking Lake Road. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Resident input has informed the location and design. Residents felt having the station next to Fire Station 2 was conveniently situated and would result in less fuel emissions and travel time. Also based on input, it has been designed for residential users only. The one bay has lower fill pipe height and a slower fill rate that will not accommodate commercial water trucks.

A Strathcona County account is required to use the water fill station. Accounts can be set up by calling 780-464-8273. There is no option for cash payments.

The project cost was $1.2 million, with 90 per cent funded through Alberta government cost-shared grant funding, provided in 2009 under the Water for Life Strategy as part of the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership.
