Strathcona County welcomes Stacy Fedechko as new Chief Commissioner

After an extensive search, Mayor Rod Frank, on behalf of Strathcona County Council, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stacy Fedechko to the position of Chief Commissioner. Her position is effective March 3, 2025.

The Chief Commissioner is the sole employee of Council, serving as its chief advisor and administrative leader, responsible for overseeing the County’s policies, programs and services. In this role, Ms. Fedechko will guide and advise Council on municipal operations and legislative matters, providing critical insights to support informed decision-making.

Working closely with Council and County staff, Ms. Fedechko will lead the organization in alignment with Strathcona County’s strategic plan and approved policies.

“Ms. Fedechko has served as the County’s Associate Commissioner, Infrastructure and Planning Services since September 2020 and has been with the County for over 20 years,” shares Mayor Frank. “Ms. Fedechko is a valued leader who has demonstrated dedication and played a key role in the County’s success. She brings a deep understanding of the County and a strong commitment to serving the community.”

“We are confident that Ms. Fedechko will continue to build on our strong foundation, guiding our organization towards even greater success. This appointment reflects the outstanding talent and dedication we have within our organization, and we are excited for the vision, leadership and innovation Ms. Fedechko will bring to the role,” the Mayor continues.

Mayor and Council wish to extend their sincere thanks to Ms. Jennifer Cannon, who has served as the interim Chief Commissioner during the recruitment process. The Mayor concludes, “We are grateful for her commitment to our community, which was vital for a smooth transition in leadership. Ms. Cannon will resume her role as Chief Financial Officer and Associate Commissioner, Corporate Services.”

Ms. Fedechko brings extensive strategic leadership experience, aligning County operations with long-term goals to ensure Strathcona County remains agile and focused on becoming Canada’s most livable community. She has led innovative projects driving local and regional economic growth, while improving processes for greater performance and continuous improvement. Known for building strong relationships, Ms. Fedechko has established trust with Council, staff, and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and effective partnerships. Her leadership and dedication have been key to the County’s growth and will continue to contribute to its future success.
