Job Description

Strathcona County is seeking a dynamic Supervisor for Indoor Culture Programs to oversee a diverse range of programs including visual arts and performing arts. This role is pivotal in managing and leading our indoor culture program team to ensure we meet the evolving needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities:


 


1. Leadership and Staff Supervision: 


  • Build and lead a talented team focused on delivering high-quality cultural programs 
  • Supervise, guide and support the culture program team to provide program activities in our indoor recreation and culture facilities


2. Communications: 


  • Foster strong internal communication across various business and marketing teams and program instructors
  • Provide clear communication to support positive guest services related to registration processes and program preparedness
  • Liaise with business systems and marketing for proper representation in online and print materials
  • Collaborate with other facility and program supervisors to optimize space utilization and meet community needs


3. Program Development: 


  • Network, conduct research and assess community needs, identifying industry trends
  • Develop and evaluate programs to address service gaps and measure success in alignment with the Recreation and Culture Strategy outcomes and department business plan
  • Develop innovative programs using a lens of accessibility and inclusivity
  • Maintain awareness of Indigenous cultural protocols


4. Systems Coordination & Business Development:


  • Manage program registration software
  • Implement program evaluation strategies and develop customer attraction and retention plans
  • Focus on maximizing the guest experience through a continuous improvement lens


5. Budget Management: 


  • Work with the branch accountant to manage budgets, maximize revenue, and recover costs
  • Explore opportunities for sponsorship and develop pricing strategies


 


Qualifications and Skills:


  • Post-secondary Degree in Recreation and/or Cultural Administration, Business, Visual or Performing Arts or related discipline with 2 years of related experience; or post-secondary Diploma with 4 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity 
  • Proven knowledge of cultural programming across a range of artistic disciplines
  • Experience developing and/or delivering public arts programming for a variety of audiences  
  • Current Standard First AID with CPR-HCP, and WHIMIS is required 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with IntelliGenz software is an asset
  • OH&S Supervisory courses are assets
  • Strong interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Experience and knowledge in change management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours to provide supervisory support during peak times


 


Conditions of Employment:


  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
