Job Description

This posting is for 2 hourly positions


The Transit Service Technician performs daily maintenance and housekeeping at our transit facilities in a safe, timely and effective manner which leads to higher level of satisfaction for both staff and customers that utilize Strathcona County Transit services. The responsibilities of this key position have a positive and direct impact on safety, reliability and efficiency of our transit facilities and users.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide general light duty maintenance and housekeeping services on transit infrastructure (ie., bus shelters, parking structures) in order to help provide a welcoming and safe operating environment 
  • Perform general building and equipment repairs and maintenance such as changing lights, daily cleaning of bus barn floors, and ensuring areas are clear of debris and obstructions
  • Maintain and repair the on-board computer systems on the bus fleet
  • Identify required maintenance and or safety defaults for corrective measures to prevent deficiencies and hazards 
  • Ensure all work is conducted safely and in compliance with safety regulations to ensure a safe workplace 


Qualifications and Skills


  • High School Diploma plus two years of related work experience preferably within a heavy equipment or maintenance industry
  • In depth knowledge to safely operate and maintain relevant equipment and tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge and abilities to perform the scope of work 
  • Skid steer and forklift experience is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Sound decision making skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment 
  • Experience in a municipal setting is considered an asset 


Conditions of Employment


  • Submission of satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence with air brakes “Q” endorsement and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
  • Ability to work a variety of casual and on-call shifts including days, evenings and weekends
