New ward boundaries will come into effect for the 2025 general municipal election.
Strathcona County Council gave third reading to Bylaw 22-2016 on September 13, 2016 that changed the municipal ward boundaries, the areas from which councillors are elected.
Changes to the ward boundaries were minor and only impacted residents living in Salisbury Village. Effective October 16, 2017, Salisbury Village became part of the urban Ward 3.
Proper boundaries provide for effective Council representation for all residents. The Ward Boundary Review Policy also sets criteria to ensure urban and rural interests are represented effectively.
The ward boundaries established by Bylaw 22-2016 will remain in effect until the 2025 general municipal election.Â

Strathcona County Council gave third reading to Bylaw 31-2023 Municipal Ward Boundaries and Council Composition (2.8Â MB) on January 30, 2024. This bylaw changed the municipal ward boundaries, the areas from which councillors are elected. These new boundaries will come into effect for the 2025 general municipal election. Election candidates for ward councillor will campaign in the new ward boundaries, and, if elected, will represent the residents of the new ward boundaries.
Changes to the ward boundaries will impact residents living in the following neighbourhoods:
Boundary maps (future (2025) wards)
Strathcona County is divided into eight (8) wards for the purposes of elections and governance. Voters in each ward elect a Councillor to represent them on Council. Councillors serve with the Mayor, who is elected by all voters.
Ward boundaries are reviewed and adjusted periodically. Boundaries are adjusted to achieve a more balanced distribution of population among wards to support equal representation and access to your Councillor.
If you live in a household that is affected by changes to the ward boundaries and you are an eligible voter wishing to vote in the 2025 municipal election, you will vote in your new ward for a Councillor candidate for that ward.
If you wish to run as a candidate for Councillor in the 2025 election, you would seek to be nominated in your new ward.
No. The Councillor who was elected in 2021 to represent your ward will remain your Councillor until the 2025 general municipal election in October 2025.
