Job Description

This posting is for multiple, non-permanent hourly seasonal positions ranging from 17 to 22 weeks. Positions have start dates ranging from April to May 2026.

 

Join Planning and Development Services for the 2026 summer season! Labourer positions contribute to the conservation of municipal land, and the maintenance and improvement of rights-of-way through the performance of manual labour and tasks to control noxious and prohibited noxious weeds as listed in the Alberta Weed Control Act.     

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual tasks in all operations including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, screwdrivers, etc.)  

  • Learn the safe operation of small equipment (string trimmers, push mowers, pumps, drills, backpack sprayers, etc.) â€¯ 

  • Operate trucks up to and including two-ton trucks, trailers and UTV’s 

  • Conduct vegetation management through manual and mechanical methods 

  • Assist Invasive Plant Technicians in herbicide application activities 

  • Follow safety guidelines to keep self and others safe on the worksite  

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills  

  • Strong organizational, time management, and decision-making skills   

  • Ability to adapt to new and changing conditions, combined with initiative and responsibility  

  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods  

  • Knowledge of OH&S, MSDS, and WHMIS Regulations  

  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of equipment, hand and power tools

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits 
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required prior to start date
  • Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work a variety of shift work
