Job Description

This posting is for multiple hourly evening on-call positions for up to 12 weeks

Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture is currently seeking motivated and engaged individuals to work as part of our dynamic summer operations team.

As a Labourer I, this position will be required to assist with snow removal on an on-call basis around Broadmoor Lake, Sherwood Park Arena, Kinsmen Leisure Centre, Festival Place, RPC Admin and Broadmoor Public Golf Course.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual tasks in all parks operations and Broadmoor Public Golf Course, including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, scrapers etc.)
  • Learn the safe operation of small equipment (backpack blowers)Follow safety guidelines to keep self and others safe on the work site

Qualifications and Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with others
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, MSDS and WHMIS regulations and First Aid Training
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement weather and adverse weather conditions
  • Minimum Grade 10 education
  • Minimum of one year driving experience
  • Experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools
  • Previous experience as a labourer or in landscaping, construction, forestry, greenhouse, playground, golf course, agricultural, or irrigation practices would be considered an asset
  • Experience operating small equipment would be considered an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits 

  • Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc. 

  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions 

  • Ability to work a variety of shift work
