Job Description

This posting is for one hourly position working 12 – 15 hours per week

Strathcona County’s Utilities department is seeking a Waste Diversion Program Assistant to support the operations of the HodgePodge Lodge. In this role, you will take a lead position at the Lodge, welcoming and assisting visitors, coordinating day-to-day activities, and collaborating with volunteers to ensure a positive and organized experience for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to residents visiting the lodge, accept or deny donations, answer questions and handle escalated issues that arise  
  • Organize, clean, and purge the shelves within the Lodge
  • Help execute special events at the Lodge like school tours and public events
  • Provide orientation, guidance, and support to volunteers; ensure daily tasks are completed; foster a positive and engaging atmosphere; and manage feedback, references, and hour sign-off
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma with related experience engaging groups of people and interacting with the public

  • Knowledge of Strathcona County’s HodgePodge Lodge and an understanding of its purpose and contribution to the community are considered an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (outgoing and interactive approach) with the ability to engage and communicate with the public in a positive manner

  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve

  • Effective time management skills with the ability to work under time constraints

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check 

  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time[EW1] 

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, ability to work Friday 12:00 pm – 6:15 pm and Saturday 10:00 am – 6:15 pm, with the possibility of extending to Tuesdays 12:00 pm – 6:15 pm in the spring
