Job Description

This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 18 months
 

Do you possess the ability to lead and mentor an operational team and assist in the supervision of a large part-time operational staff?

We are seeking a Lifeguard Supervisor for Kinsmen Leisure Centre, experienced with strong communication and interpersonal skills to deliver quality services to residents and lead an operational team consisting of a supervisor and hourly staff. In addition to technical subject matter expertise, your role would be to exceed the expectations of different stakeholders including those from the public and operational groups. The position also performs as part of a facility-based supervisory team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the Lifeguard III, as well as indirect supervision of the Recreation Attendants and Lifeguard I & II’s (team of 35-40)
  • Develop staff schedules using When to Work
  • Perform OHS related duties and ensure all lifeguarding staff are trained on Safe work Practices
  • Work with the Operations Technician on mechanical and operational issues for both the Kinsmen Leisure Centre and the Broadmoor Spraypark during the summer months
  • Coordinate repair work with various trades for pool specific operational systems. 
  • Ensure all aquatic operations are maintained at the highest level and comply with Alberta Health safety and health regulations
  • Maintain excellent customer relations with all clients. Respond to client enquiries and concerns, and communicate, follow-up with lifeguarding team where required
  • Work with the Facility Supervisor on monthly variance reporting in areas of staffing costs, chemicals, equipment, cleaning supplies etc.  Provide direction to the Lifeguard III regarding ongoing updates to operation checklists, charts and procedures
  • Provide leadership and supervision to all areas of the facility and contribute to Supervisory team discussions and activities
  • Plan and run training sessions and meetings for the part-time lifeguard and Recreation Attendant staff. 
  • React to emergency situations and provide first aid and emergency aid when required
  • Liaise with other facility-based work areas as well as Central Services for purchasing and Corporate OH&S for Incident Investigation and injury reporting
  • Complete the ordering of all supplies & equipment online through Oracle


 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma (degree is an asset) in Recreation, Business Administration or a related field
  • 5 years of lifeguarding experience with a minimum of 4 years supervisory experience
  • Experience in software programs: When to Work, Intelli, iTrak, Oracle, Asset Planner, and MS Office Suite
  • Able to effectively lead, train, motivate and supervise a fulltime supervisory team and assist them in the supervision of large diverse staff
  • Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety, public health standards and provincial swimming pool operational guidelines
  • Critical thinking and facilitation skills
  • Attention to detail, big picture thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with excellent public relations and customer service skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and general building/pool system knowledge, able to trouble shoot operational issues
  • Current certification in:     
    • National Lifeguard Award     
    • Aquatic Emergency Care     
    • CPR/AED     
    • Pool Operator level I and II (preferred)

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check 

  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 

  • Available to work a Sunday through Thursday schedule, including at least 1 evening shift per week. Schedule may vary during shutdown periods. On-call availability to support part-time staff outside of regular working hours.
