Strathcona County has an exciting opportunity within our Community Connection and Investment Unit branch. This unit works to build, grow and invest in relationships with and between organizations and individuals within the community. The Community Investment Coordinator is responsible for facilitating investment in community organizations and administering and stewarding the Social Framework Community Grants Program.
Our Community Grants program provides more than one million dollars in financial support to eligible social service groups, organizations or groups of residents that are meeting social service needs. By taking a systemic view, the Community Connection and Investment Team takes action to proactively build relationships, share knowledge, administer grants and establish networks of support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all grant streams in accordance with the grants policy and guidelines, advising senior leadership on the financial investment in community partners and emergent issues within the grant program
- Monitor and track the deliverables, reporting, and progress of all aspects of the grant program, and assist applicants in understanding their obligations for all aspects of the program
- Provide guidance and recommendations on how the program can best serve the needs of community; this can include development of grant allocations, policy amendments, or process improvements
- Plan, design, and facilitate information sessions for grant applicants, lead the development of communications and marketing plans for the grants program
- Analyze grant applications, ensuring leadership and the Community Grants Advisory Committee are advised of completeness, eligibility requirements and any potential issues for funding
- Facilitate the grants review process for leadership and the Community Grants Review Committee
- Hold the primary relationship with all organizations and residents who receive a grant or are applying on grant programs
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree within the human services field including human ecology, sociology, political science, psychology or equivalent with 4 years of related work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience coordinating a grant program is preferred
- Knowledge of the department’s policy frameworks and other grant funding programs offered locally and through neighboring municipalities to maintain awareness of the funding landscape is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of community partners and organizations in a diverse community
- Knowledge of grant funding policies, procedures and non-profit board governance best practices
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to prepare reports and briefings
- Ability to analyze budgetary line items for compliance with budget guidelines
- Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments
