This group has been working together to look at how our metro area can work together to leverage its strengths and address key challenges over the next 30 to 50 years as one of the fastest growing regions in Canada.

The futures of the participating municipalities, which surround and include Edmonton, are linked by our geography and economies. The municipalities are represented by their mayors and chief administrative officers.

Background

The Metro Mayors Alliance represents 95 per cent of the region’s population and 96 per cent of its assessment base. Our communities are changing and the global economy is changing. As metro mayors, we believe we need to work together to get ahead of the challenges and maximize opportunities we face.. By finding new ways to think, act and plan as a metro area, everyone across the region can benefit.

After several months of discussion, we agreed to put together an independent advisory panel, made up of a group of accomplished community and business leaders, who represent a variety of sectors. Over the course of six months, this panel will work independently and consult with experts in order to develop a final report and recommendations that will be presented to the mayors and the public in the spring of 2016.

We have asked that these recommendations be constructive and thought-provoking, taking into consideration: the economic, environmental and social aspirations of the region.
