Arbor Day returns to Strathcona County with hands-on learning for students

Strathcona County’s long-standing Arbor Day tradition returns on Friday, May 8, welcoming more than 1,100 Grade 1 and homeschool students to take part in outdoor, hands-on activities focused on trees and environmental stewardship.

Celebrated for more than 40 years, Arbor Day introduces children to how trees grow, how to care for them and the important role they play in a healthy environment. Activities will take place during school hours in Broadmoor Lake Park, with additional programming offered for homeschool families at Peace Park near Festival Place.

This year’s event will be supported by approximately 160 staff and community volunteers and will focus on environmental awareness, outdoor safety, and community care.

With support from the Government of Alberta, 1,100 tree seedlings will be distributed to participating students to encourage continued learning and tree care at home.

Virtual Arbor Day programming is also available, offering interactive videos and activities that explore tree growth, care, fire safety and more. These resources can be accessed from the classroom or at home.

Arbor Day in Strathcona County is proudly supported by Enbridge.
