Update on fires in Strathcona County

As of 8 a.m., the County continues to have one evacuation order for everyone in the area between south of Township Road 540 and north of Township Road 534; and east of Range Road 221 and west of Range Road 215. This includes Pleasant View Estates and Newton Estates. Fire crews remained on scene overnight in this area and continue to battle the blaze.

A reception centre is still set up at Strathcona County Community Centre in Sherwood Park, at 401 Festival Lane. If you live in the evacuation zone please call 780-464-4044 to register. As of this morning, just over 250 people had registered.

Crews also remain on scene at the fire near Hwy 21.

At this time, the County can confirm that there is no loss of life or injuries from either of the fires in the County. No homes have been damaged. Some damages have been reported at Sureflow Weeping Tile, east of Hwy 21; one outbuilding and five vehicles and trailers at the back of the property.

Both fires remain under investigation.
