WHEREAS in the Province of Alberta, bullying is a problem affecting too many Albertans including children, youth and adults across our communities; and

WHEREAS in the Province of Alberta, half of Alberta’s students reported being bullied at school and 45% of adults reported being bullied at work; and

WHEREAS we all have a role in promoting healthy relationships in our communities; and

WHEREAS building awareness and understanding of bullying and promoting kindness and compassion in our relationships and communities will work towards ending bullying; and

WHEREAS together, Elk Island Public Schools, Elk Island Catholic Schools and Strathcona County, are working together to create opportunities and build capacity to promote components of healthy relationships in schools and the community through awareness, knowledge and skills building; and

WHEREAS through strong community collaboration, we encourage Strathcona County members to spread kindness and lead the way by reaching out and speaking out; and visually show their support by wearing a pink shirt; and

NOW THEREFORE I, Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim February 22, 2017 as ‘Pink Shirt Day’ in Strathcona County.
