Strathcona County Emergency Services is looking for Advanced Care Paramedic Firefighters to join our fully integrated emergency services team. As an ACP Firefighter, you'll have the unique opportunity to serve the community as both a paramedic and a firefighter. Our members respond to medical emergencies, fires, rescues and other incidents while supporting programs and initiatives that help keep residents safe. What you'll do
ACP Firefighters work in a dynamic and rewarding environment where no two days are the same. In this role, you will:
Respond safely and professionally to emergency and non-emergency incidents
Rotate between ambulance and fire apparatus assignments
Deliver high-quality emergency medical services, fire suppression and rescue services
Participate in training, exercises and ongoing professional development
Maintain equipment, vehicles and facilities to operational standards
Complete required reports and administrative responsibilities
Contribute to projects and initiatives that support the department's mission, vision and values
Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and the community to provide exceptional service

Required qualifications
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic at the time of application
Successful completion of the University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Test (see conditions of employment below)
Ability to meet all NFPA physical and medical standards
Valid Alberta Class 4 driver's licence
Submission of a five-year driver's abstract with fewer than seven demerits
Preferred qualifications
NFPA 1001 Level I and II certification
Experience in emergency medical services and/or fire response
Current ITLS, PALS and ACLS certifications
Skills and attributes

Adaptability in fast-paced and changing environments
Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth
Mechanical aptitude and the physical ability to perform demanding work in challenging conditions
Dedication to maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being
Conditions of employment
Successful candidates must provide:
A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Proof of all required certifications and professional credentials
In addition:
A valid Alberta Class 3 driver's licence with Air Brake (Q) endorsement must be obtained before the end of probation at the candidate's expense.
Candidates who have completed the University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Test within six months of applying may submit those results.
Candidates who have not yet completed the fitness test may be scheduled to participate in August 2026.
Shortlisted candidates will also be required to complete pre-employment physical and knowledge assessments.

Be fully registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics
Meet or exceed Alberta's physical fitness standards under the Canadian Physical Performance Exchange Standard for Fire Fighters
