Residential meter socket issues become more common in the winter when frost begins to pull the main service wire down further into the ground. There are a few different approaches that can be used to get power back on in the house when meter socket repairs are needed. Every situation is unique based on the surrounding ground works, location of concrete surfaces and presence of frost, ice and winter conditions. For new construction, an underground splice is required, while single barrel lug splicing may be an option for older homes to avoid the need for additional home repairs following work on the meter socket.Â
Prior to commencing work, it is recommended to discuss the issues and proposed repairs with the County's Electrical Safety Codes Officers to ensure compliance with the applicable codes.Â
Further, an electrical permit is required to be obtained from the County's Planning and Development Services department.Â
