Job Description

The Facility Supervisor directs all aspects of facility operations for the largest recreation facility, in Strathcona County. This includes managing and leading a strong operational service-oriented team, developing and managing budgets, as well as providing recreation services within the facility to maintain the building and its specialized equipment to ensure continuous operation for guests and staff. The role ensures compliance with all health, safety, and industry standards while supporting sustainable, multifaceted recreation services that promote healthy lifestyle choices for Strathcona County residents. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop/manage a large and diverse operational staff team through recruitment, mentoring, training and guidance
  • Lead, coach, and develop Assistant Supervisors and staff through open communication, personalized learning plans, and structured training programs
  • Design and deliver technical training focused on guest service excellence, County core values, and the RPG service framework
  • Establish and refine facility processes that support both structured and drop-in programs, staying ahead of trends, market shifts, and innovative opportunities
  • Review and manage event and rental licence agreements and service contracts to ensure exceptional service for community groups, residents, and guests
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the facility marketing plan in alignment with departmental strategies and service offerings
  • Create, manage, and oversee annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with municipal policies, service standards, and strategic priorities
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure efficient use of resources, working within approved budgets and advising on potential overages, and adherence to procurement policies. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement operational efficiencies
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including variances, utilization trends, and key performance indicators, to senior leadership and Council as required
  • Oversee financial components of vendor agreements, service contracts, and maintenance contracts. Ensure accurate invoicing, timely payments, and adherence to service levels
  • Review and evaluate current operating procedures and personnel practices and establishes procedures, practices and priorities for the most effective facility operation
  • Lead facility safety and security efforts, proactively identifying risks and implementing best practices to protect staff, guests, and the community

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • University Degree in Recreation Administration, Business or related discipline; or a related field with 5-7 years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferably in a large multi-functional recreation facility setting
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Alberta Recreation Facility Personnel Arena and Pool Operators I & II and Certificate in Municipal Management and Leadership would be an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, supervision and leadership skills combined with judgement, discretion and a strong work ethic  
  • Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills  
  • Effective time management and decision-making ability  
  • Will be expected to lift, carry equipment, and may have to work odd or long hours at a time to complete special requests or projects or to participate in or coordinate evening and off-hour meetings and attend building emergencies
