Strathcona County is committed to supporting non-profits in our community to build strong, effective boards. Through these FREE workshops, non-profit board members gain skills and tools needed to achieve their organizational goals. 

These workshops are designed to be attended by multiple board members from organizations based in Strathcona County that directly benefit residents.

Aging Board Series

Explore effective strategies for succession planning and board recruitment and renewal in this two-part workshop.

May 6 and 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. ⎸ Emerald Hills Leisure Centre

Session 1: Internal continuity and succession. Learn how to prepare for leadership turnover, how to identify what leadership gaps exist and how to plan for continuity of your non-profit board.

Session 2: Board recruitment and renewal. Explore how boards recruit the right people, how to prepare for changes, what makes someone a ‘good fit’ and how boards can set themselves up to attract new members.

Alberta Board Member Essentials workshops

Designed to support the growth of new and experienced board members, the Alberta Board Member Essentials (ABME) program is a multi-part training program that combines online learning with live workshops to equip board members with the tools to serve on a non-profit board successfully.

Strathcona County provides a limited number of ABME scholarships. Qualifying individuals must:

  • Complete all three on-demand online courses before live workshops.

  • Attend all three live workshops.
