Strathcona County is committed to supporting non-profits in our community to build strong, effective boards. Through the Across the Board and Alberta Board Member Essentials workshops, non-profit board members can gain skills and tools needed to achieve their organizational goals. 

These workshops are designed specifically for individuals serving on a non-profit based in Strathcona County that directly benefits residents. 

Across the Board workshops

Across the Board provides free skills-building workshops designed to be attended by multiple board members from an organization. Across the Board is a collaboration between Strathcona County and the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations.

Improve how your board functions through this free, engaging and insightful workshop designed to strengthen your board's governance practices and build connections with other board members who are asking similar questions.

  • What is good governance?
  • Clarifying board member roles & responsibilities
  • Governance vs. operations
  • Healthy decision-making practices

When: November 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Alberta Board Member Essentials workshops

Designed to support the growth of new and experienced board members, the Alberta Board Member Essentials (ABME) program is a multi-part training program that combines online learning with live workshops to equip board members with the tools to serve on a non-profit board successfully.

Strathcona County provides a limited number of ABME scholarships. If you are interested, email familyandcommunity@strathcona.ca or call 780-464-4044 to learn more. Qualifying individuals must:

  • Serve on a non-profit based in Strathcona County that directly benefits residents.
  • Complete all three on-demand online courses before live workshops.
  • Attend all three live workshops.
