Our goal is to empower people with information so they can access food that meets their individual needs, including low-cost or affordable food options.

Food security means having reliable access to nutritious and affordable food. Whether you are choosing different items at the grocery store due to rising costs or needing to access a food pantry, food security impacts us all.
Food Finder Strathcona is a pilot project that hopes to strengthen connections with food and inspire conversations about food security in Strathcona County.

Food Finder Strathcona is an interactive map and community led pilot project developed to improve awareness and access to food resources in Strathcona County. In addition to highlighting food resources, Food Finder Strathcona aims to educate the community about food security, including local programs and resources available.
This pilot-project has been created by the Food Security Action Table, part of Strathcona County’s Community Safety and Well-being Strategy.

Members of the Food Security Action Table worked together to develop the list of food resources on the map. Food is about more than just meeting a basic need. Our goal is to empower people with information so they can access food that meets their individual needs including specialty items, low-cost or affordable food options.

Community gardens are shared spaces where people grow food together. Some gardens grow food for donating or sharing in addition to having individual plots. When visiting a community garden be respectful of the space, read all signage and follow the rules. Do not pick produce unless you have permission.

Restaurants can be found on Strathcona County’s business directory map. Adding restaurants to the Food Finder Strathcona map will be considered based on feedback received when evaluating the pilot project. To provide your feedback, please complete the Food Finder Strathcona evaluation form.
These retailers can be an important source of food for people facing barriers including affordability, transportation limitations or a lack of nearby grocery stores. Including these retailers highlights where people in our community currently access food.
