Strathcona County encourages all residents to experience agriculture through livestock, in a safe and responsible way. In some areas of the County this is through special events where livestock are in an area for a temporary period. These events must be managed safely to protect the public and the livestock from injury and illness.
The purpose of a Livestock Event Permit is to allow livestock at short-term events in locations where livestock is otherwise not permitted under this bylaw. Event examples include, but are not limited to:
- Public and private special events where livestock are included, such as petting zoos and parades.
- Facilities, such as hospitals, care facilities and schools, where livestock provide emotional or mental support to persons.
- Facilities, such as schools, where livestock are used for educational purposes.
